Prince George Sparks The #BoysDanceToo Movement

After GMA host mocked Prince George’s love of ballet, the #BoysDanceToo movement was sparked

After Lara Spencer, host of Good Morning America, mocked Prince George for enrolling in ballet lessons, hundreds formed a flash mob to support him.

It all began when Good Morning America covered Prince George’s new school curriculum which involves ballet. Host Lara Spencer said, “Prince William says George absolutely loves ballet. I have news for you Prince William, we’ll see how long that lasts,” to which Lara and the crowd laughed.

After Lara’s insensitive comments, a social media movement called #BoysDanceToo was sparked.

One Twitter user wrote, "@LaraSpencer, next time you come for my son for taking ballet lessons, I will end your career. Now please excuse us, Prince George is sending you a signed copy of Billy Elliot to educate you on how adults imposing their stereotypes promote toxic masculinity. #boysdancetoo"

So You Think You Can Dance choreographer Travis Wall also weighed in, saying, “I found these comments to be very upsetting. Not only did you inspire your audience and colleagues to participate in the laughter, you have now added fuel to the fire to the massive problem in this country, which is bullying.”

But Travis’ comments turned into real world action when he decided to lead a ballet flash mob outside the GMA studios to show solidary with Prince George and other young boys and men who love to dance.

In a post on Instagram, Lara apologised- “My sincere apologies for an insensitive comment I made in pop news yesterday. From ballet to anything one wants to explore in life, I say GO FOR IT.”

And go for it we shall! Now let’s burn the dance floor fellas!
