You Can Now Get Emojis On Your License Plates

Queensland drivers will be all “smiley face”.

First it was numbers, then it was letters AND numbers, now it’s letters, numbers and winky faces? That’s right, emojis are coming for your license plates!

Emojis – those little picture faces that you can send in your text messages to indicate that you are happy (?), hungry (?) or even angry (?) – already have their own movie and now they’re making their way onto our cars by way of the humble license plate.

Queensland are the first to make the move to license plates featuring emojis. The Sunshine State should change its name to the :D state because they are no longer going to be known just for their sunshine but also for their love of the emoji.

Personalised Plates Queensland (PPQ) are planning to roll out the new look license plates from next month. The plates will set you back between $160 and $500 but what’s money when it comes to expressing your emotional state alongside the letters and numbers used to uniquely identify your vehicle.

It’s not just any emoji that’s available to put on your license plate, though. So don’t get any ideas thinking you could just get a license plate with the shower emoji and the loaf of bread emoji sitting side by side, we know what you’re up to! ??⛔

The emojis that will be available will include the emoji with the face that is laughing and crying at the same time, often called the ‘laugh out loud’ emoji or ‘lol’ emoji. You will also be able to get the winky face emoji, the coolest man in the world emoji (otherwise known as the sunglasses emoji), the love hearts for eyes emoji and then your regular old smiley face emoji.

Royal Automobile Club of Queensland (RACQ) spokeswoman Rebecca Michael told 7News Brisbane about the big changes.

“For quite some time we’ve seen that you can support your favourite team or your favourite town with a symbol on your number plate, and using an emoji is no different.”

Which emoji would you throw your support behind? Me?

I’ll never tell.
