Smashing New Avo Hack!
A mother has unwrapped an environmentally friendly way to keep your open avocados fresh for longer.
According to a woman in New Zealand, this simple solution will stop an avocado from going brown in the fridge for at least a week.
The Mum was looking for a ‘greener’ option to wrapping the avocado in cling wrap or placing it in a container when she accidentally discovered the answer. She was astonished to learn that lettuce leaves wrapped around the avocado did the trick.
She wrote on Facebook, “I sort of accidentally discovered that I have been throwing away first-class food wrap”.
Lettuce leaves, primarily the outer ones that are a bit harder, make for excellent food wrap. Since they're designed for that purpose in the first place.
The earth-friendly storage tip shocked users on Facebook. One person responding, “Oh my god who would have known this? I'll have to try it.”
Another commented, 'Wow this is really awesome'.
Often harder outer lettuce leaves are removed and binned before making a salad anyway, so it appears to be a win-win, not only are the leaves being repurposed, but they are 100% compostable and degradable.
To prove just how effective the lettuce wraps are, the woman posted a photo of her green avocado, stating it had been open for a whole week.
'It was all good for today's breakfast. Incidentally, lettuce leaves even keep bread buns fresh,' she said.
So not only is the solution greener than using cling wrap (and much easier - how does anyone not end up with it in a ball) but appears to be more effective.
This life-hack is delicious and fresh in every kind of way!
