Dana White Announces Robert Whittaker's Title Defending Fight In Australia
The UFC boss officially announced middleweight champion Robert Whittaker will defend his title against Kelvin Gastelum on Aussie soil.
"We're going to Melbourne, Februrary 10th and the headliner is going to be Australia's first ever UFC Champion Robert Whittaker," he told The Project on Tuesday.
"What you're going to see is an incredible night. Both guys are knock-out artists, both guys like to stand up and bang and it seems like every time we do fights here in Australia the fighters never disappoint."
UFC 234 will go down at Rod Laver Arena, and marks the UFC's third trip to the city.
The UFC is going to hit Australia in a big way if things go according to White's plan, telling The Project hosts the organisation wants to "go everywhere".
Undefeated heavyweight Tai Tuivasa is gearing up to be the first Indigenous Australian to headline a UFC fight card when he takes on former champ Junior Dos Santos in Adelaide this December.
The Western Sydney born fighter has made quite the name for himself, often doing a signature shoey after fights. While we're sure White appreciates the Aussie showmanship, he said he personally won't be partaking in the practice.
