Taylor Swift Cancels Melbourne Cup Performance
Taylor Swift has pulled out of her scheduled headline performance at this year's Melbourne Cup, just 10 days after announcing she would be blessing her Aussie fans with an appearance at Flemington Racecourse.
The 'Lover' singer has apparently had a change to her promotional tour in Asia that has made it "logistically impossible" for her to be in Australia for the race, promoter Mushroom Events said on Saturday.
“Regrettably, Taylor is no longer able to make it to this year’s Melbourne Cup," Michael Gudinski said in a statement.
"Changes to her Asian promo schedule have made it logistically impossible for her to be here. To all of Taylor’s fans, we hope to see Taylor in Australia in 2020.”
Victoria Racing Club CEO Neil Wilson also confirmed the news on Saturday, saying VRC had only "recently learned" Swift would be unable to perform.
"Obviously this is disappointing for everyone," Wilson said.
"We understand how important the pre-Cup entertainment is and we look forward to providing an update shortly.”
Swift was expected to perform two songs from her latest album 'Lover' in the Mounting Yard before the big race on November 5.
It would have meant anyone who was on the racecourse that day would have seen the music superstar in person for her only planned appearance in Australia this year.
