Monika Kos To Join 10 News First Perth As Presenter In 2020

Acclaimed local journalist and presenter Monika Kos will present the 10 News First Perth weekday bulletin from January 2020, joining the network in an exciting move.

Kos will present the weekday bulletin alongside sports presenter Tim Gossage and weather presenter Michael Schultz, bringing West Australians the best of local, national and international news coverage. She is replacing Narelda Jacobs, who will shortly join 10's morning show Studio 10.

One of Perth’s most trusted and respected journalists, with an illustrious career spanning more than 20 years at the helm of 'Today Tonight', she said she is excited to take on this new role.

“Narelda has been the face of 10 News First Perth for over a decade and I’m proud that she has been given this opportunity on Studio 10 to showcase her talent to the rest of Australia. As a fellow West Australian, it’s an honour to be filling her seat and to be entrusted with such an important role,” Monika said.

“I look forward to immersing myself in a newsroom that’s as enthusiastic and passionate about reporting issues that matter to Perth as I am. Whether reporting on local, interstate or international events, it will be a privilege to be part of a team that delivers them to you first. It’s a new chapter for me and I cannot wait to join the team."

Jacobs, the current much-loved and admired 10 News First Perth presenter, will depart the desk this Friday and cross the border to her new role with Studio 10, based in Sydney.

“I’m so pleased to be handing over the baton to Monika, a journalist I’ve respected since I was a broadcasting student at the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts," Jacobs said.

"I sat in awe of her as she motivated my class to pursue a career in journalism. Over the years, she’s inspired generations of reporters and she’ll continue to help lead an experienced and talented newsroom at 10."

Network 10 Perth Sales Director and General Manager Paul Townsend called 2020 "an extremely exciting time for 10", and said the network was further consolidating its presence in the local Perth market.

“10 News First Perth has been a staple for so many West Australians over a long period of time. Having Narelda lead part of this brilliant broadcast team put us in a very fortunate position, but as she tackles new adventures with Studio 10 we are looking forward to having Monika join the team in Perth," he said.

"Monika brings with her almost 30 years of editorial experience and will be an important addition to an already impressive and successful news team.”

It’s rare to have an opportunity to replace Narelda’s experience with such an outstanding presenter in a market like Perth where I know local knowledge is vital to our audiences.

"Monika knows Perth intimately. She’s been passionate about connecting with the community over almost three decades. Her knowledge and insights into the issues that matter to the people of WA can only add to our exceptional team. Across news, sport and weather we will maintain an incredibly formidable team.”
