Perth Priest Accused Of Stealing From Subiaco Church

A former Catholic priest accused of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from a Perth church has pleaded not guilty to all 36 charges against him.

Joseph Walsh was 66 in December last year when he was charged with an initial six counts, with police alleging he pilfered cash from his Subiaco parish over several years.

A further 30 charges were added this year and Walsh entered his pleas in Perth Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Walsh led the Subiaco parish for many years before being appointed to All Saints Chapel in the Perth CBD, but was removed in June last year after police launched an investigation.

At his first court appearance, Walsh's lawyer Wayne Burg said his client appreciated the support he had received from people in the community.

A message posted on the All Saints Chapel website asked worshippers to "please keep Father Joe in your prayers".

He will face a trial listing hearing in the District Court of WA on January 31.
