Chapel Street Takes The Lead, Hundreds Of Stores Go Pet-Friendly
Managers of a Melbourne shopping strip insist they haven't gone barking mad as they champion the benefits of permitting entry to pets.
More than 300 shops, gyms, banks, salons and eateries in the Chapel Street precinct are pet-friendly from Friday.
Many eateries in the area have created dog-friendly spaces specifically to comply with Australian health regulations that prevent animals from being within 10 metres of food consumption or preparation.
Chrissie Maus from the Chapel Street Precinct Association says the initiative makes for a more friendly and social experience for shoppers.
"Chapel Street knows how important the relationship is between humans and animals, so this won't just be for one weekend, we want you to bring your furry friends here fur-ever," she said.
Participating stores will display a paw-on-the-door.
