Drive in Sydney? You could be missing out on $85 million dollars worth of refunds
Owning a car in Sydney can feel like a never ending expense and the government agrees.
It wants you to know you've paid too much for your green slip and could be eligible for a refund.
"There's still 50 percent of the population out there that can get a refund that we're encouraging them now to hurry up and get your money" Finance Minister Victor Dominello told Ten Eyewitness News
Following changes to the compulsory third party (CTP) scheme which came into effect last year, drivers have been able to claim refunds on their green slips renewed before December 1.
But many haven't.
In fact, there's still about $85 million dollars in unclaimed refunds available to 1.78 million drivers.
Blacktown tops the list of suburbs where the most money is yet to be claimed with 9,279 people eligible to make claims on $520,926 in refunds.
8,501 people in Castle Hill are yet to claim $509,250 worth of cash back.
Another 8,152 people in Baulkham Hills are eligible for $493,714.
Almost half a million dollars ($452,235) is yet to be claimed in Auburn.
And, Mosman rounds out the top five, where 7,349 share in $446,373 worth of cash back.
Here are the top 20 Sydney suburbs with the most money still to be claimed.
The average refund for a Sydney driver is $70 but could be as high as $120 depending on when the policy was renewed.
Drivers have until September 30 to claim their refund either online anytime here by registering an account with MyServiceNSW, calling 1300 287 733 or visiting a centre in person.
