Seven-Year-Old Girl Dies One Minute Into Routine Surgery
A seven-year-old girl from South Carolina died just one minute into routine surgery to remove her tonsils, according to her devastated parents.
Paisley Elizabeth Grace Cogsdill died on Friday at a medical center in Greenwood, local news outlets reported.
Family members said the girl snored in her sleep but was otherwise believed to be healthy.
However her parents reportedly said her heart stopped during the surgery and doctors failed to revive her.
An autopsy will determine the official cause of death.
Cogsdill attended Clinton Elementary School and was a straight A student who had an attitude full of joy, according to her obituary.
Cogsdill's grandmother Mary Beth Truelock told local news agency WHNS that going into surgery "she had no fear".
"She was smiling and happy. Nothing was wrong, you know? She had no fear," she said.
“Definitely missing her all the time. You don’t understand why these things happen, but we know it was God’s plan and that’s the only thing that can get us through, because we know it was God.”
A GoFundMe campaign has so far raised close to US$40,000 for funeral expenses in just a few days.
