YouTube Apologises For Banning Popular Music Streaming Channel
YouTube music streaming channel ChilledCow was suspended from the platform after allegedly violating the conditions of the website.
ChilledCow has 4.4 million subscribers and streams music 24/7 intended to help listeners relax or study, with tens of thousands tuning in at any one time.
On Saturday, the channel received a message alerting that its account had been terminated, because it may have violated YouTube's Terms of Service.
"Please be aware that you are prohibited from accessing, possessing or creating any other YouTube accounts," the notice said.
ChilledCow posted a screenshot of the message on Twitter and tagged Youtube with the caption "any explanation on this?".
It is not clear what conditions the channel allegedly violated.
YouTube has since apologised for the "mistake" in a reply to ChilledCow's tweet.
"Our teams confirmed this was a mistake on our side and your channel has now been reinstated," it said.
"We’re sorry this happened! We've shared feedback with our review team to prevent similar errors from happening in the future."
A follow-up tweet from ChilledCow included a picture of a message from YouTube confirming the account was not in violation of the Terms of Service.
"My account has been unbanned, thank you from the bottom of my heart for the tremendous support, I'm grateful to have such an amazing community," ChilledCow said.
"I will launch the stream again as soon as possible."
Hours later, ChilledCow was back up and streaming music.
ChilledCow has been contacted for comment.
