Deadly Coronavirus Spreads To US, Man Placed In Isolation
Following the deaths of six people to coronavirus, a man in Washington State has been identified as the first confirmed case in the United States.
The man from Snohomish County is believed to have contracted the coronavirus after returning from a trip to Wuhan, China, where the infection was first detected.
The 30-year-old showed symptoms of the virus after he was hospitalised with pneumonia last week.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the man is being isolated “out of caution” and “poses little risk” to the public.
The news follows growing concerns of the virus spreading globally and mounting evidence that it may spread through human contact.
Cases of the virus have been identified in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, Taiwan, Japan, Thailand, and South Korea.
Chinese authorities now estimate 300 cases in the country after the virus broke out in a seafood and poultry market in Wuhan.
The World Health Organisation will decide tomorrow in Geneva, Switzerland whether the illness should be a global health emergency.
