Uber Passenger Who 'Dozed Off' Wakes To $2700 Bill
A DJ is $2,676 out of pocket after an Uber driver took him on a 480-kilometre joy ride while he slept in the back.
Chris Reed said he had ordered an Uber after a late night out in London last weekend and was sure he was headed to his Croydon home when he fell asleep in the back.
Five and a half hours later, he woke to find he was in Sleaford, Lincolnshire, 160 kilometres away from his home.
His was forced to cough up an eye-watering $2,676.
"Spent this week trying to get answers from Uber as to how my driver managed to drive me halfway up the UK while I dozed off thinking I was headed from Fulham to Croydon," he wrote on Twitter.
"Woken up in the Midlands!"
"Didn’t hear a peep from my driver, £1453.86, 5 1/2 hrs on surge price x2," he said.
Reed said that an Uber employee had confirmed on Tuesday that his home address was on the original booking
"They are now denying this yet have no proof that I ever entered an address in Sleaford -- a destination I have never been to in my life," he said.
Reed then slammed the ride-sharing company after confirming that the money had been taken out of his account.

"So after [four] frustrating days of trying to avoid having to plaster this over socials, a reminder, Uber, take ZERO responsibility for their passenger’s safety," he continued.
"NO indication inside my app of that address being entered by me. Drivers can change destinations on a trip".
He urged people not to drink and drive but to also not drink and get in an Uber "as this could happen to anyone".
Uber has confirmed it is looking into the incident and has encouraged all riders to "confirm their destination with the driver before the trip commences".
