'Zombie Angelina Jolie' Arrested For Blasphemy
An Iranian Instagram star, famous for drastically altering her appearance to resemble what's been described as a version Angelina Jolie, has reportedly been arrested.
Sahar Tabar was detained after members of the public made complaints about her after she underwent close to 50 different cosmetic surgeries.
The 22-year-old is now facing a number of charges including blasphemy, inciting violence, gaining income through inappropriate means and encouraging youths to corruption, Tasnim news agency reports.
Tabar shot to fame last year after posting a series of images of her face alterations and currently has 22,000 followers.
While much work has been done to give her the sunken cheeks, plumped lips and large eyes, comparable to those of Jolie, Tabar admits that make-up and photoshop have played a part.
“Every time I publish a photo, I paint my face in an increasingly funny way,” she told Russian website Sputnik in 2017.
“It is a way of expressing yourself, a kind of art. My fans know that this is not my real face... I am a muse myself,” she said, explaining that she never set out to look like Jolie.
Tabar's arrest comes amid a crackdown on online influencers.
Over the weekend, Tehran released Perth bloggers Mark Firkin and Jolie King who had been detained in prison for three months.
The couple reportedly flew a drone without a licence.
University of Melbourne lecturer and academic Dr Kylie Moore-Gilbert remains behind bars with the Australian Government working to free her.
According to local media, Moore-Gilbert was arrested last year, charged with unknown offences, and sentenced to 10 years jail.
