Shooting Inside Costco Store Sparks Stampede: Reports
A shooting inside a large Costco store in California has reportedly left several people injured after frantic customers stampeded towards the exit.
Local police in the city of Corona, where the reported shooting took place, said the incident had now been "stabilised" but have yet to confirm whether there were injuries.
"There is no apparent threat to our community from any outstanding persons," police said in a statement.
"We will release more information as we work to confirm the facts."
Witnesses have told local media that police and ambulances swarmed the store southeast of Los Angeles after reports of up to eight shots had been heard inside.
It's believed more than 100 people were inside the store on Friday night when the alleged incident occurred.
The U.S. is no stranger to public place shootings and gun crime.
The most recent mass shooting saw 12 people killed when a gunman opened fire inside a Virginia Beach municipal building.
The suspected gunman who died in a shootout with police was later identified as a disgruntled city engineer and co-worker of most of the victims.
More to come.
