There are reports of an active shooter situation at a North Carolina university.

Reports of multiple shots reported came in about 5.50pm local time, at the University of North Carolina in Charlotte.

"Run, Hide, Fight," the university's Twitter account sent.

"Secure yourself immediately."

Sources also confirmed at least one person is in custody, but there is no confirmation that there was just one active shooter.
