Dramatic Vision Of A Beached Whale Rescue

Moving a seven-tonne humpback whale was no easy feat as rescuers worked tirelessly for more than 28 hours.

Spotted by locals on the tourist beach of Mar del Tuyu in the eastern Argentinian province of Buenos Aires, it took around 30 people including the Argentinean Navy, lifeguards and volunteers to free the stranded humpback whale.

A special harness and an industrial digger was brought in to maneuver the 10 metre long mammal from the beach into shallow water and then a boat was used to guide the whale back into deeper water.

Local media reported that the strong waves made the rescue even more difficult as the whale kept being washed toward the shore.
