A Creepy Look Inside Abandoned Beijing's Olympic Venues
Ten years on from the Olympics, it lies in ruins.
Ten years ago, Beijing held the eyes of the world on them as the world's greatest athletes descended on the city to compete in the XXIX Olympic Games.
At the time, China was being hailed for putting on an incredible show but 10 years later, those venues are overgrown ruins long forgotten by the public.
Chaoyang Park Beach Volleyball Ground
Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park
The venue where Jacqui Lawrence took out the silver medal in the K1 event in 2008 is now almost completely drained and more closely resemble a swamp than an Olympic track.
Laoshan BMX Venue
The BMX stadium which was once colourful and exciting has become completely overrun by overgrown weeds -- the track is unrecognisable and barely visible anymore.
Olympic Mascot "Beibei"
Not even the mascots could escape the slow march of time. All five of the "Fuwa" (which translates to 'good-luck dolls') have been photographed in the bush, seemingly dumped after doing their work for 16 days.
Even more pictures of the run-down venues show just how creepy the abandoned spots really are:
