Chris Hemsworth Showed Up To Melbourne Surf Park Reveal
The first perfect waves have officially been surfed at URBNSURF in Melbourne and Chris Hemsworth showed up to watch.
In the star-studded preview of Melbourne's first surf park, Chris Hemsworth made a surprise appearance along with Australia's 2020 Olympic surfing team - including Owen Wright, Sally Fitzgibbons, and Julian Wilson.
Harnessing Wavegarden’s next-generation Cove technology that replicates the exact water particle movement of ocean ground swells, the surf park will be capable of pumping out up to 1,000 high-quality, ocean-like waves every hour.
It's located just minutes from Melbourne Airport and features a crystal clear surfing lagoon of similar size to the iconic MCG.
Australian Pro-Surfer Julian Wilson told media this morning that the surf park was pretty groundbreaking.
"It's an exciting time. The waves are perfect and they're on-demand, so I'm feeling pretty spoilt this morning."
"We're one of the strongest nations in the world for surfing so I think this should only help," he said.
World number four Sally Fitzgibbons also shared Wilson's praise for the park.
"It's insane! To come to a pool and you press the button and there's world-class waves just pumping through -- there's nothing better."
"We needed this facility to keep up with the rest of the world," she said.
Shaped like a baseball diamond, the Melbourne lagoon will offer surfing conditions and experiences for all ages and abilities.
With another project already in development in Sydney, URBNSURF is aiming to develop ten world-class surf parks in Australia within the next decade.
