Everyone Suddenly Loves VAR After Shocking Offside Call Overturned

It's the video technology fans love to hate. Until one goes their way.

And in the EPL match between Manchester United and Arsenal at Old Trafford overnight, football's VAR -- the Video Assistant Referee -- finally did what it's there for.

Yes, the VAR actually corrected a refereeing howler, and it proved crucial too, as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's second-half goal meant United and Arsenal shared the points with a 1-1 draw.

Below you can see the original mystifying decision. The linesman actually ruled this offside, despite the United defender, in red, being about two metres behind any Arsenal player.

Maybe the linesy was just stretching his arm. Image: Supplied.

"I was sure that I was not offside," Aubameyang said after the game. He was right.

Anyway, all was well that ended well.

Arsenal climbed into fourth spot on the EPL ladder with this draw.

They're still having an absolute shocker by their standards, sitting in tenth place, and giving great joy to fans of every club which is not United -- and that's most of us. Now where's that grin emoji?
