Lucy Zelic Infuriates 1.3 Million People, Calling Adelaide A 'Dull Sh*thole'

The SBS sports presenter is famous for pronouncing ethnic names perfectly. But we're not sure her description of Adelaide was quite spot on.

In fact it was pretty darned rude and uncalled-for.

On the latest SBS World Game podcast released on Monday, Zelic interviewed Ziggy Gordon, a Scottish player recruited by the Central Coast Mariners, when for one reason or another, talk turned to Adelaide.

"You won’t see much in Adelaide,” Zelic told Gordon, after asking him which bits of Australia he's visited so far.

“Adelaide’s a sh*thole."

Wait, WHAT? Yep, you read it right. And Zelic was only warming up.

"No disrespect, no disrespect. I can say that because I’ve travelled there multiple times and I didn’t enjoy it. I found it to be incredibly dull and boring.”

Uh yeah, right. No disrespect at all.

Needless to say, Adelaide folk didn't take this well. At all. And we could paste a bunch of their outraged tweets right here, but the point is that Zelic has created a whole shtick for herself as being respectful. And this was the very opposite of that. For no reason. Unprovoked.

Anyway, Lucy has now apologised. It took a while. You might say it was "a delayed" reaction. As in Adelaide reaction. Oh, anyway.

But you get the feeling that people of South Australia will not be forgiving her for a long while, and that she may not be covering too many Adelaide United A-league games for the foreseeable future.

Meanwhile, the podcast appears to have been taken down. 10 daily contacted SBS's digital sports editor to see what's what, but we haven't heard from him yet. We'll let you know if we do.
