Shocking, Scary Race Fall In First Race Of Winx’s Farewell Day

A terrible race fall in the first race at Randwick has cast a sullen mood over the racecourse ahead of Winx’s final race.

Winx goes for 33 straight wins in the final race of its decorated career in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes today at 3: 05pm.

But in scenes no racegoer wants to see, two horses came down close to the winning post in Race 1, the Kings of Sydney Sport Mile.

Persan, ridden by Glyn Schofield and War Baron, piloted by Andrew Adkins, came down approximately 50m from the finish as the field got extremely tight.

Early reports are that jockeys and horses are OK, but we’ll update with more information as it comes to hand.

Leading racing commentator Andrew Bensley said that Adkins had severe bruising around his eye but was conscious.

Adkins is heavily concussed and had been taken to Prince of Wales hospital.

More to come.
