You've Got About Five Minutes To Get The Last Winx Tix
As we write this, there are still a few tickets to see the greatest ever Australian race horse in her final race.
But you'd better be quick.
Winx runs in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes on Day Two of The Championships at Sydney's Royal Randwick racecourse this Saturday, and it's sure to be a sell-out as the great mare ends ends her career going for 33 straight wins.
But if you get online now, you might just get lucky.
Unlike football stadiums, racecourses tend not to have an official capacity, as many people spend the day moving around, rather than plonked in the one seat.
With that in mind, Randwick is thought to be able to hold about 50,000 under ideal conditions -- although the official record was 40,578 for the second running of The Everest last October.
"Ticket sales are rapidly climbing," the Australian Turf Club's Brett de Vine told 10 daily.
"We're ahead of the trend for the second running of The Everest."
De Vine said that the number of tickets made available would depend to some degree on the weather.
"If it's sunny, we could probably get towards 45,000 because they could spread far and wide," he said.
The current forecast is for fine mild weather in Sydney on the weekend, after a dip in temperatures and a bit of rain midweek. So all looks good for a record crowd.
Though Winx is stabled at Rosehill Racecourse in Sydney's west, Randwick is effectively the mare's home track from a racing point of view.
She has won 19 of the 32 races in her unbeaten streak at the eastern suburbs venue -- where the wide open track minimises the chances of her being boxed-in and beaten by bad luck.
De Vine reckons that Winx normally boosts attendances at Randwick by about 30 percent. You could probably double that figure this weekend. And as mentioned, you can still be a part of it. If you're very quick.
