Queensland Make Big Team Changes For Origin III

Billy Slater named captain in his final Origin game

Billy Slater has been confirmed as Queensland captain for his final State of Origin match in next Wednesday's dead rubber in Brisbane.

Veteran fullback Slater replaces Greg Inglis (broken thumb) as skipper with coach Kevin Walters forced into a number of changes due to injuries. The third match in the series, to be played in Brisbane on July 11, is a dead rubber after NSW wrapped up the series in Sydney.

Daly Cherry-Evans has been promoted to halfback, with Ben Hunt -- maligned for his performance in Game II -- demoted to the bench, filling the interchange utility role left vacant after Newcastle livewire Kalyn Ponga picked up an injury last weekend.

The NSW Blues have made only minimal changes after winning both games so far, with St George Illawarra Dragons forward Tariq Sims coming into the side for Matt Prior, and Paul Vaughan being promoted into the run-on squad.

Captain Boyd Cordner, who is also battling an injury, will be given until game day to prove his fitness.

Queensland will be looking to avoid their first series whitewash defeat since 2010.
