The Bizarre 'Breakup Text' Labor Just Sent Gladys Berejiklian

Labor has launched a Valentine's Day-themed 'break up' ad.

"It's not me, it's you."

In the style of viral videos designed to get millions of views on Facebook, the ad simulates a text message exchange between NSW Labor and Premier Gladys Berejiklian.

"Hey. I don't think this is working out," the text reads.

"What! Why??" is the emoji-filled reply.

"After eight years, I've just had enough."

It touches on key election issues like the ongoing stadium clash and the fish kill disaster in the Murray-Darling, as well as the recent hot button topic of music festivals.

"After eight years I've just had enough," the text from Labor continues

"I didn't want the stadiums. You never listen to me anymore. You killed our fish. And cancelled my favourite music festival."

At the end comes the slide in from Labor leader Michael Daley.

"We still on for March 23?"

The campaign dropped across NSW Labor's social media channels on Thursday morning.

The NSW Liberal party is facing something of an uphill battle at the upcoming state election, with the latest Newspoll putting the Liberal-Nationals winning 39 percent of the primary vote to Labor's 36 percent.

It also suffered a wipe-out at the Wagga Wagga by-election last September, losing a seat the Liberal party had held for more than 60 years.

Labor, meanwhile, is working hard to increase Daley's profile coming up to the election. The new Labor leader only stepped into the role last November, following former leader Luke Foley's resignation amid sexual harassment claims.

The 'break-up' text has so far received a mixed response, as is to be expected with anything political -- some love it, some hate it. Presenter and journalist Marc Fennell called it "effective... but the end kinda kills it." Watch this space to see how it plays out.
