Police Track Down Couple Who Lost Engagement Ring During Proposal
Police in New York have at last secured a happy ending for a couple whose public proposal didn't appear to go quite to plan.
Moments after popping the question in New York's Time Square on Saturday, the man dropped the ring before it fell deep into the abyss of a sidewalk grate.
Officers were able to pull off the seemingly impossible task of finding the ring -- but not the couple.
A short video posted on social media, showing the man's fumble and the woman bending down to assess the fall, sparked an international manhunt.
Over 23,000 shares later, police announced they had tracked down the couple, named John and Daniella, who had since left the country.
"We would like to thank everyone who shared this story! The (now) happy couple is back in their home country, but thanks to your retweets they heard we were looking for them," NYPD said on Sunday.
"We're making arrangements to get their ring back. Congratulations!"
According to the BBC, they're from Cambridgeshire in the UK but are yet to comment publicly.
