Driver Unaware He Was Getaway Driver For Fugitive After Deadly Stabbing

When an innocent bystander gave Vladimir Kondakov a lift in Sydney's Inner West, he had no idea he was acting as a getaway vehicle for an alleged criminal.

Kondakov, 49, fled from a construction site in St. Peters on Wednesday afternoon after allegedly fatally stabbing the 76-year-old manager of the site, Albert Metlage and seriously injuring his son Antony, 33.

Manhunt Continues After One Dead, One Injured In Construction Site Stabbing

Police are still hunting for a man who allegedly fled the scene of a fatal stabbing at a Sydney construction site.

Kondakov managed to hitch a ride with a man driving past the worksite at the time, but police confirmed on Thursday, the driver had no idea what had just transpired.

"The gentleman was passing by, Mr Kondakov flagged that vehicle down and was able to secure a ride from the location. The gentleman who picked him up was unaware of the circumstances and has no connection to this incident," Cheif Inspector Michael Merrett said on Thursday.

Police believe Kondakov was dropped in Rockdale, where he was last seen. He's been on the run from the police ever since.

Kondakov is believed to have been working on the construction site as a labourer. Police told media on Thursday that he's a long-time employee of the company, and hadn't had previous issues with his employers.

Police also confirmed the attack was targeted, "violent and unprovoked". They were unable to offer a motive. They were also unable to discuss the weapon used in the stabbing.

"Clearly it was a very traumatic occurrence for those people [ workers]. It's not something you normally find on a building site or workplace," Merrett said.

Authorities have very little information about Kondakov, who his friends or family are in Australia and therefore, where he might be hiding. They are urging anyone with information to come forward and appealed to Kondakov himself, telling him to turn himself in.

Merrett confirmed that "a large number of resources" have been deployed to find Kondakov and investigate his alleged crimes.

Vladimir Kondakov is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 180cm tall, with a large build and a shaved head. He speaks with a Russian accent.

Police released images of Kondakov on social media on Thursday. Members of the public have been urged not to approach the 49-year-old if he is seen and to instead call triple zero.

It was confirmed Kondakov is known to police, but for "unremarkable" matters.
