Purest Cocaine And Heroin In The Country Found In WA
Western Australia has the highest purity heroin and cocaine in the country, according to a new drugs report shedding light on Australia's problem with illicit substances.
The Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission’s 2017 – 2018 Illicit Drug Data Report found cocaine in WA is 70 per cent pure – more than double the purity of Queensland’s 31.1 per cent.
“The quarterly median purity of cocaine ranged between 31.1 per cent in Queensland in the third quarter of 2017 and 70.0 per cent in Western Australia in the first quarter of 2018,” the report reads.
Despite having the highest purity, WA was the only state where the strength of cocaine decreased year-on-year. The purity of heroin in WA is roughly the same as cocaine, at nearly 70 per cent.
“In 2017–18, the quarterly median purity of heroin ranged between 17.4 per cent in the third quarter of 2017 in Victoria and 69.0 per cent in the first quarter of 2018 in Western Australia,” the report reads.
But the report also showed that authorities were doing their best to stop the scourge of drug use.
Western Australian authorities had the biggest percentage increase in the number of siezuires for amphetamine-type stimulants, steroids and opioids in 2017 – 18.
