Man Charged With Allegedly Choking, Sexually Assaulting Young Girl

A 21-year-old man has been charged after allegedly choking and sexually assaulting a young girl in a car.

The girl, aged 15, reported to a Newcastle hospital that she had been assaulted by a man known to her.

She had arrived at the John Hunter Hospital with injuries to her neck.

"Police will allege in court that the man supplied the girl with alcohol and prohibited drugs before choking her and sexually assaulting her in a car in the Newcastle area on Wednesday 5 June," NSW Police said on Friday.

The man was arrested, following extensive inquiries by Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad, around 6pm on Thursday night.

He has been charged with aggravated sexual assault – inflict actual bodily harm on victim, and two counts of aggravated sexual assault – victim under the age of 16 years.

The man is due before Newcastle Local Court on Friday.
