Barefoot Bandit Smashes Into Service Station, Tiptoes Over Broken Glass After Forgetting Shoes

He remembered a skull mask and a mattock -- but not his shoes.

It was the unfortunate dilemma of a service station assailant, who was forced to gingerly step over a huge pile of broken glass after he smashed his way into a Townsville shop on Tuesday night.

Queensland Police are investigating the attempted robbery, looking for a man caught on CCTV wearing a hoodie, a skull mask -- but no shoes.

He broke his way into the Rangeview Street petrol station around 11pm on Tuesday, but fled after the young female attendant locked herself in a rear office.

Camera footage showed him shattering the glass door of the station, but then proceeded far more gently after realising he'd come ill-prepared for the robbery he attempted to carry out. He tip-toed across the glass, then back out after failing to secure any loot.

Ironically, he walked right past a large rack of footwear -- including colourful thongs -- on his way in and out of the station, but failed to grab a pair to save his feet from a second trip over the broken glass.

"He then smashed glass displays inside the premises before leaving empty handed," police said.

"He is described as Caucasian and was wearing a skeleton mask, dark coloured long-sleeved hoodie and dark coloured shorts."

Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact police.
