Police Hunt Knife-Wielding Man After 'Scary' IGA Hold-Up

A man armed with a knife has allegedly held up an IGA supermarket in the inner-city Sydney suburb of Pyrmont on Tuesday afternoon.

Police are still hunting the would-be thief, who fled empty-handed after allegedly attempting to rob the supermarket on Miller Street at about 2:45pm on Tuesday.

A witness has told 10 News First he saw a man put a t-shirt over his head before entering the store and attempting to rob the IGA.

The witness claimed he saw the man holding what appeared to be a small knife.

"It was pretty scary obviously for someone to have that knife," the witness said.

"You just never know these days... I don't know what it takes to do something like that."

He said the entire incident unfolded very quickly.

Police are now investigating the alleged robbery and said no one was injured in the incident.

"The man has only been described as being of Caucasian appearance," police said in a statement.

"Police remain on scene as they continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the robbery."

They are urging anyone with information to come forward.
