Body Of Woman Found In Inner-City Melbourne Park
A police investigation is underway after a woman's body was found in Melbourne's Royal Park.
Dog walkers found the woman's body amongst logs near the North Park Tennis Club just before 9:30am on Saturday.
Police said the age and identity of the woman is still unknown, and her death is being treated as "suspicious".
The timeframe of the woman's death is still unknown, Detective Inspector Andrew Stamper, from the Homicide Squad, said.
"It could have been last night or it could have been this morning," he told media on Saturday.
"We still don't know who this female is, and we don't know the circumstances that brought her to the park."
Investigators were not able to confirm if a weapon had been used or what injuries the woman had suffered, but suggested the possibility it was a random attack would be a "strong focus".
People were kept out of the park as a line search was conducted by investigators on Saturday afternoon.
The park is a popular destination in Melbourne, and the incident has been an "awful shock", said Assistant Commissioner Luke Cornelius.
"We have tasked the local police to increase their visible presence, and when people come to this park they can continue to feel safe," he said.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
