Elderly Couple Left 'Devastated' After Daughter's Ashes Stolen
A heartless thief has left an elderly couple 'devastated' after breaking into their home and stealing priceless possessions, while they slept inside.
A number of items were stolen from the Sherwood home in Brisbane's south-west last week, but police are most concerned with the return of an urn containing the ashes of the couple's late daughter and the war medals of another late family member, which were also taken.
Police allege the 72-year-old woman who lives at the residence was asleep inside the bedroom when the thief made their way inside, also stealing the woman's handbag and some jewellery.
The ashes of the couple's daughter who died when she was just 17, were contained inside a rosewood polished box, around 30 centimetres long and 20 centimetres wide.
The war medals were awarded to the male resident's late father, A.N.PALMER from the 2/7th Battalion for services in the Middle East and New Guinea during World War II, police said in a statement.
Police are now "appealing to the conscience" of the person responsible for the theft and urging them to return the items to their rightful owners.
They have also released images similar to the stolen items and asked anyone who may have seen similar discarded items to come forward.
"The victims have been left devastated by the loss and police are appealing to the conscience of whoever took the precious items to return them to a local station so they can be reunited with their rightful owners," police said.
