WATCH: Insane Police Chase Through Gold Coast Ends In A Splash

A man has been arrested after Queensland Police were led on a wild chase through the Gold Coast.

Police spotted a stolen Hyundai Sante Fe with false NSW plates driving through Carrara at about 11am on Monday.

PolAir footage shows the car dangerously weaving through traffic and driving on the wrong side of the road.

Stingers were deployed by police and the car came to a stop on the Ross Street Bridge.

The driver then appears to jump out of the car and approach another, allegedly waving a knife at the other driver.

Police then swarmed the man, but he escaped by jumping off the bridge and into the Nerang River.

After a short swim, he was eventually captured by police.

A Maudland man, 29, was charged with attempted robbery, dangerous operation of a vehicle, driving a motor vehicle without a driver licence and two counts of obstructing police.

He was also charged with one count of rape and one count of stealing in relation to an incident on May 5 at Ormeau Hills.

He will face Southport Magistrates Court later on Tuesday.
