Apartment Raided After Counter-Terrorism Arrest At Melbourne Church

Counter-terrorism police have raided a residential building in Melbourne's north following an earlier arrest at a church.

Police told 10 daily two people are now in custody and assisting a joint counter-terrorism team with its investigation, following a search of the building on Friday afternoon.

10 News First understands it was the home of a man arrested during a counter-terror operation outside an Anglican church earlier on Friday.

Footage from Queensberry Street showed a man, dressed in a white forensic jumpsuit, being led from nearby St Mary's Church to a waiting vehicle.

A worker at nearby Trutrack Suspension told AAP the police action seemed to focus on the church.

"We can hear a few helicopters. We drove through before, it was all blocked off, the road. Police (are) everywhere," the worker said.

Police insisted there is no threat to the community.

"There is no current or impending threat to the community. It would not be appropriate to comment further at this time," a spokesman said earlier.
