Gunmen At Large After Melbourne Boxing Match Murder
One man has died and two others have suffered gunshot wounds during a targeted attack at a boxing event in Melbourne on Friday night.
Police are hunting for two men who fled the scene after several shots rang out at around 10pm.
During the confrontation a man was shot dead and two other suffered injuries. One of the victims is fighting for life.
While the victims are known to police, detectives wouldn’t confirm if their were any gang or OMCG links.
Witnesses say the fight broke out in the foyer and the spilled out onto the street outside the Melbourne Pavilion.
Detective Sole Soloman said, it was an “extremely disturbing incident to take place at a well organised and well managed event.”
Police have CCTV footage of various activities occurring from inside and outside the venue.
They have not identified a motive or those responsible for the shooting, but know the offenders fled the event on foot.
“This was a targeted attack -- no further risks to the public,” Soloman said.
Forensics are at the scene gathering evidence and examining cars that were struck with bullets outside the venue.
High-profile underworld figure Mick Gatto also attended the match.
A witness, who declined to be named, said he heard the shots but didn't see the fatal shooting out the front of the Melbourne Pavilion.
He said there was chaos inside the venue when the shots were fired. He also confirmed the fight went ahead as planned.
Police want to speak to every patron who attended last nights event. They’re urging anyone who hasn’t had the chance to speak to officers to call crime stoppers.
