Woman Impaled After Metal Rod Bounces Through Windscreen

A woman was impaled when a metal rod bounced off the road and smashed through her windscreen.

The 60-year-old woman was driving a truck on the Warrego Highway in Queensland on Monday afternoon when the accident occurred.

The 50cm rod impaled her and she was left with "significant chest injuries", a spokesperson for Queensland Ambulance confirmed to 10 daily.

She was airlifted to Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane in a critical condition.

Police are now investigating, and believe the metal rod may have fallen from another vehicle.

They located a number of metal rods at the scene, and debris further down the road.

Anyone with information as to where the metal came from or with dashcam footage of the incident is being urged to come forward.
