Akaash Narayan, 20, wasn't required to appear in Parramatta Bail Court on Thursday and will remain in custody at Amber Laurel Correction Centre.
He shot is alleged victim, 50-year-old Ragni Narayan, in the head with a nail gun after the pair became involved in a verbal altercation on Tuesday at their home in Bonnyrigg Heights, west of Sydney.
The pair were arguing at about 10.30 pm near the property's driveway. The 20-year-old allegedly shot his stepmother three times in the head with a nail gun and allegedly fled the scene on foot, leaving her in the driveway.
Emergency services arrived at the scene and treated the woman before she was taken to Liverpool Hospital. She has since undergone delicate surgery to remove three nails lodged near her brain and is now in a stable condition.
The woman's husband is believed to have witnessed the alleged incident and was treated at the scene for shock.
Police arrested Akaash Narayan at about 3.45 am on Boxing Day and charged him with causing grievous bodily harm to a person with intent to murder.
The Crown has asked for eight weeks to prepare a forensic brief of evidence and Akaash Narayan will appear at Fairfield Court via video link on March 8.
