Man Dead After Violent Home Invasion And Baseball Bat Attack
A man has died after he was attacked in his home in Lake Macquarie, NSW.
Emergency services were called to the home on Lonus Avenue, Whitebridge at about 2.30 am on Monday morning where they discovered a 60-year-old man with serious injuries to his arm.
Police believe the man answered the door when the attackers knocked. It is believed three people armed with baseball bats and knives then entered the man's home attacked him in his bedroom. They also had their faces covered.
"The injuries were quite serious," Commander of Lake Macquarie Police District Daniel Sullivan told media on Monday.
"He had injuries to his arm which were significant enough for them to take him immediately to John Hunter hospital."
The 60-year-old later died in hospital.
While police were unable to confirm if the three attackers knew the deceased, they did say the 60-year-old was already known to them.
Police were also unable to confirm age, gender or physical appearance of the three attackers.
The man's two brothers were at home at the time of the attack, but they were not hurt. They are assisting police with their investigation into the alleged crime.
Police have appealed to members of the public for any CCTV or dash cam footage or any another information they may have.
"The important part here is that a serious crime like this is literally like a puzzle," Sullivan said.
"Some people have a small part of the puzzle and feel that it is too trivial to give to the police. We put that puzzle together and the best way for that person to help us in this time of need is through Crime Stoppers."
Police are currently investigating if this was a targeted attack.
