Video: Thieves Use Stolen Excavator To Break Into A Bank
Bringing a whole new meaning to the phrase, breaking the bank.
Victoria Police are on the hunt for two thieves who undertook a brazen robbery in Tongala overnight, who escaped with boxes of stolen cash and left a destroyed bank building behind them.
The daring duo brought in a stolen excavator to break into the bank just before 3am on Wednesday, ripping out its front wall and causing significant damage to the building and ATM.
CCTV footage from the incident shows the yellow excavator slowly making its way towards the bank, while a white ute waits.
The excavator swivels into position before smashing into the window and tearing apart the wall.
The video shows one man hop out of the white ute and grab several items near the window, before opening the door of the excavator to help the other man out.
Police said the men stole a number of cash boxes before activating the alarm and fleeing, leaving the excavator behind.
Officers on Wednesday were unable to confirm how much money was stolen.
The excavator is believed to have been stolen, along with a truck, several hours earlier from an address on Apollo Drive, Shepparton, nearly 50 kilometres away.
Witnesses have reported seeing a white dual cab ute and dark grey wagon near the front of the bank a short time before police were called.
