Man Swims Down River To Avoid Police After Car Chase

A Queensland man who allegedly swam down a river to escape police after a car chase north of Brisbane is due to face court.

Police say the 32-year-old Nanango man swam one kilometre down the North Pine River after officers used spikes to blow the tyres of the stolen Audi he was driving late on Friday night.

He eventually surrendered to officers and will face charges of burglary, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, unlawful possession of a weapon and unlawful use of a motor vehicle in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Saturday.

A 25-year-old woman who was also in the car, but did not swim, is due to face charges including unlawful use of a motor vehicle and possession of dangerous drugs in Pine Rivers Magistrates Court on November 26.
