Woman's Body Found In Home With Unharmed Baby Son

Police are searching for a suspect after a dead woman was found in a home with her five-month-old son unharmed.

Police say the 39-year-old suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police attended the address at Bellambi, north of Wollongong on the NSW south coast, around 1am on Friday morning.

"She had a significant amount of blood on her and injures," Detective Inspector Brad Ainsworth told media on Friday.

"That house was declared a crime scene. The area was cordoned off. Guards were placed on it. There is a crime scene examination going on, as we speak," he said.

It is believed the woman was found by a friend who called triple zero. She lived alone at the home with her son.

"The body had suffered serious injuries and her death is being treated as suspicious," police said.

Police are treating the death as suspicious and are looking at camera footage from neighbours to help with their investigation.

"We're treating it as a homicide, no doubt, we are looking for a perpetrator that's committed  that crime," Ainsworth said.

"Part of our investigation is --we will do a canvas, obtained CCTV from nearby residents and businesses. We will go through that and hopefully our investigation bears fruit," he said.
