'Mongrels Got To Pay': Michael Guterres' Family Speaks Out After Fatal Bashing

Police have charged a man with murder after a "vicious" and "targeted" attack.

The grieving family of Michael Guterres is remembering him as a kindhearted person who "always made sure everyone was okay" after the 31-year-was allegedly fatally bashed on Monday night.

“A mother and father have lost their son, brothers have lost their brother, nephews have lost their uncle and friends have lost an amazing friend,” his family said in a statement.

“Anyone who has met William will know he’s a kindhearted person who always made sure everyone else was okay before himself.

“We will always love our Willy G.”

Guterres was walking home through a Lurnea park just before 5pm when he was allegedly assaulted.

His neighbours ran to his aid performing CPR until paramedics arrived, but sadly his injuries were so severe he could not be saved.

Leanne Peters, a family friend saw William lying in the park covered in blood.

“I don’t know why or how anyone could do this to William… he’s a harmless bloke, he would never hurt a soul, never,” she said.

“I went to the hospital with his mum and she wanted to keep waking him up to take him home.

“They’ve got to find the mongrels who did this; the mongrels have got to pay.”

This afternoon, a 34 year-old man known to police and William, handed himself in to Liverpool Police Station.

He was charged with murder following the attack police described as “vicious” and “targeted”.

“Any attack on a vulnerable person is obviously deeply concerning,” Acting Superintendent Paul Albury said.

“It’s a very tragic set of circumstances for this young man and his family.”

His death has shocked the Guterres family who are now seeking assistance from the public to help pay for his funeral.
