One Dead In Suspicious House Fire, Possible Link To Car Accident
Police are investigating whether a suspicious house fire in Raymond Terrace and a car accident north of Bulahdelah are related.
UPDATE: While the body has not been formally accounted for, a 76-year-old woman who lives in the home has yet to be accounted for.
One man has died after a suspicious house fire in regional New South Wales, with officers investigating a possible connection to a car accident a short time later.
Emergency services were called to a house fire in Raymond Terrace, in the Hunter Region, at about 12.30am on Saturday,
After extinguishing the blaze, firefighters located a body inside. It is yet to be formally identified.
Less than an hour later, police responded to reports of a Nissan X-Trail colliding with a truck on the Pacific Highway, about 5km north of Bulahdelah.
The driver of the Nissan, a man in his 60s, was taken to John Hunter Hospital under police guard, suffering serious injuries.
The driver of the truck was not injured.
Police are now investigating whether the two incidents are linked. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, but is being treated as suspicious.
