Homes Destroyed, Firefighters Injured As Authorities Warn Of Worse Conditions Ahead

At least 20 homes have been lost to a massive bushfire that is burning southwest of Sydney, but authorities are warning that number could be much higher.

With conditions expected to ease slightly on Friday, the Rural Fire Service said it was hoping crews would be able to begin assessing the extent of the damage in some of the fire-affected areas.

Earlier on Thursday, three firefighters were seriously injured when their truck was overrun by a blaze.

The RFS provided an update on their condition on Thursday evening saying all three were conscious and expected to make a full recovery.

At least two other firies were also treated by paramedics for smoke inhalation.

Three major fires were still at emergency level on Thursday evening, with fire authorities warning worse conditions were expected to hit the state on Saturday.
