OMG Moment Dog Walker Tackles Man On Run From Police

Queensland police have released shocking vision of the moment a dog-walker crash-tackled a man who was being chased down by police on the Gold Coast on Thursday morning.

Police said they began pursuing the man after officers on patrol noticed a stolen white Toyota Hilux parked on a local street at Mermaid Waters at around 8:30 am on Thursday.

The vision, captured by PolAir, shows the man, 40, initially evading police in the four-wheel-drive, ramming a police car and reversing into another before driving off as officers attempted to stop him using a tyre deflation device.

The man continued driving for some time down local streets, narrowly missing a group of school students near a crossing, before he abandoned the car and continued to flee on foot.

Shortly after, the PolAir vision shows the man running down a pedestrian bridge past another man who was walking his dog.

The witness saw the man running and, incredibly, managed to tackle him to the ground, holding him down until police arrived to assist and arrest him.

Queensland Police said the 40-year-old man has since been charged with a string of offences including dangerous operation of a vehicle, driving a motor vehicle without a licence, offences involving registration certificates, possession of dangerous drugs and possession of utensils.

He is due to face Southport Magistrates Court on Friday.

A 16-year-old girl in the car was also taken into custody. She has not been charged with any offences.

The Good Samaritan who took down the alleged offender has been commended by police.
