Garbage Truck Driver Charged After Man Killed In Sydney Laneway
A Sydney garbage man has been charged with manslaughter after a 21-year-old man was hit by a truck and died.
Emergency services were called to Central St in the CBD after reports a body had been found early on Wednesday.
It's believed the man was struck by a garbage truck in a laneway about 1.30am.
Police stopped a truck on Darlinghurst Rd, Kings Cross about three hours later and arrested a 51-year-old driver. He underwent mandatory testing before being taken to Kings Cross Police Station.
Police sources told 10 News First that they are reviewing CCTV that allegedly shows the driver get out of the truck and move the man's body before driving away.
Footage obtained by 10 News First shows a driver reversing into a man at high speed.
The driver has since been charged with manslaughter, failing to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing death, dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving (occasioning death), improperly interfering with a corpse and not reversing vehicle safely.
Police urging anyone with dashcam vision or who may have witnessed the incident to contact them.
Police are yet to formally identify the deceased man.
