Woman Found Dead After Melbourne Home Invasion, Man Arrested

Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a 61-year-old woman, believed to have been killed during a home invasion gone wrong.

Police were called to the house on Liberty Parade in Heidelberg West about 8pm on Tuesday following reports of an aggravated burglary.

They believe a 28-year-old man broke into the home and assaulted the woman, who died at the scene.

The arrested man was taken to hospital where he remains under police guard.

Another man, thought to be known to the victim, arrived during the attack to help and restrained her alleged attacker until police arrived.

Vision has since emerged of a man, who appeared to be covered in blood, wrangling himself free from police before running at two cameramen who were filming the incident behind police tape.

Reports claim he stomped on the camera and tripod for about 15 seconds.

Police would not confirm whether the person who attacked the cameraman was the man arrested in relation to the murder, or the man who helped detain him.

Authorities are now trying to piece together exactly what happened but say they are not looking for any further offenders.

More to come.
