WATCH: Accused Thief's 'Disgusting Act' At Sports Bar

A man has been caught on camera allegedly stealing two bushfire charity tins from a NSW sports bar, in what police have called a ‘disgusting act’.

NSW police claim a man broke into the Oaks Hotel Motel at Albion Park Rail, south of Wollongong, on Tuesday morning.

While inside, the man allegedly stole two tins that were put out to raise funds for the Rural Fire Service.

Police said officers arrived about 3am to find a glass door had been smashed at the back of the bar.

Police released CCTV of the incident, which shows a man dressed in a hooded jumper run inside and grab two tins from the counter before he allegedly flees the scene with them under his arms.

It comes as more than 100 fires continue to burn across NSW.

So far this bushfire season, 2,176 homes have been destroyed across the state -- 1,260 of those had been lost in the past fortnight.

Lake Illawarra Police District's Matt Brophey said the incident was "extremely disappointing".

“Our neighbouring communities have been devastated by recent bushfires and for someone to target those who are vulnerable is quite simply disgusting,” Brophey said.

“We have seen our community rally together in recent times to support those in need, so to see an act like this is extremely disappointing."

Police urge anyone who may have seen a man wearing an aqua hooded jumper, blue jeans and black and white Nike shoes around the time of the alleged incident to contact them.

Anyone with information should contact Lake Illawarra Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 (or online).
