Andrew 'Twiggy' Forrest Donates $70 Million To Bushfire Recovery

Mining magnate Andrew Forrest and his wife Nicola have donated $70 million to the bushfire recovery effort.

Forrest says $10 million will go towards assembling a "volunteer army" of more than 1200 people to help rebuild devastated communities.

He says volunteers will be dispatched to authorities and communities who request their help.

Their travel and accommodation expenses will be covered by the couple's Minderoo Foundation.

Another $10 million will be spent in communities in collaboration with charities such as the Australian Red Cross and Salvation Army.

As bushfires continue to ravage parts of the country, celebrities and governments have been opening their wallets to help fire-ravaged communities recover and rebuild.

The remaining $50 million will go towards developing a national blueprint for fire resilience.

Minderoo chief executive Andrew Hagger said the foundation would dispatch a small team to some of the worst-hit communities in coming days.
